Below are the results of the $25,000.00 5 Strike Candlepin Challenge bowled on May 17, 2009.  No one hit the 5 strikes in a row this year , but Josh Riopelle bowled 3 strikes in a row in the 5th string and just missed his mark on the head pin on the 4th attempt  - he was able to collect $25.00 for a triple strike plus win $200.00 for coming in second over his average!

Thanks to everyone coming out this year and hopefully we will see you all next year to try again!

What's It All About?

$25,000 will be allotted at the end of the season towards a 5 string tournament where bowlers will bowl for prize money and $25,000 for 5 strikes in a row in the same string – if more than 1 person hits it, then it will be divided equally by the number of winners! This promotion is open to all league bowlers starting for the Fall 2008-09 season.  The leagues may be an existing one or a brand new league just coming in for the first time. In order to qualify for the tournament, a league bowler has 2 ways to do so:  Entry fee is $15.00

1) A league bowler must hit a double strike during his/her league - or

2) A league bowler from Pilgrim Lanes may buy into the tournament at $50.00 - that’s it!

So, if you think you have 5 strikes in you – don’t waste them anywhere else – bowl at Pilgrim Lanes- it’s worth a shot!

2007-08 Season - Bart Maderios wins $25,000!

2007-08 Season.

Congratulations to Bart Maderios for hitting 5 strikes in a row and winning $25,000!

It was a sight to see.  Bart hit 5 strikes in a row on his 3rd game of the 5 game competition starting in the 2nd box.

After 2 strikes the announcement was made for the double strike and working on the triple.  People trickled over to watch and he let it go right down the middle and BAM! Strike 3!

At this point he had just won $25 for hitting 3 strikes in a row...he wasn't done yet

Bowling in his 5th frame he took aim and again without hesitation the pins cleared the deck kicking each other out of the way...4 in a row!

The bowlers and spectators erupted in a thunderous applause at this achievement.  Bart had just won the Strike Pool for $340…he wasn’t done yet.

At this point Bart had to sit down for 10 boxes while his fellow competitors attempted their fate.

Any bowler can tell you that the waiting is the hardest part – what could have been going through his head at this point?  Bart was jogging in place to keep the muscles loose and his mind fixed on the task at hand…

Finally after about 10 minutes – he was up.  The announcement was made that Bart was getting up and ready to bowl for his 5th strike in a row on lane 9.  Bowlers stopped their approach and all rushed over to see what might happen.

Bart took his time waiting for the bowler on his right to start his 6th box before he began his – just like Bart, always thinking of the rules and etiquette.  The silence was deafening as he studied his shot and then it happened.  His approach was flawless as the ball was released from his hand.  The ball struck the head pin and everyone gasped in anticipation. Pins were falling over themselves like dominoes.  3 pins stood, then 2… and everyone was leaning trying to coax the last pin over…it worked!

Everyone jumped in the air simultaneously and the place exploded like New Years Eve at Times Square!

Nobody was more surprised or happier than Bart’s wife Mary-Lynn…the joyful tears flowed like a faucet that couldn’t be turned off.  Bart was jumping up and down on the lane like a kid getting a new bike on Christmas.  Everyone rushed onto the lane to congratulate the man who probable deserved to win more than anyone associated with the game of candlepins.

Congratulations from everyone here at Pilgrim Lanes!
